PADDINGTON family film event.

WERFA was host to another successful Children’s Film Morning on Sunday 21st August showing ‘Paddington’ the movie, a gripping and often laugh-out-loud story based on everyone’s favourite Peruvian bear!

The event was well attended with many people returning to the Pavilion following our first family cinema event in May. Our audience were treated to a ‘real’ cinema experience, with a large screen, surround sound, and a variety of cinema refreshments including South Street ice creams and homemade popcorn.

Children’s film events are a great way to introduce little ones to the wonders of cinema, and with WERFA on everyone’s doorstep, they are minus the hassle and expense of attending larger cinemas. If you wish to sign up to our Children’s Film Club mailing list, notifying you of future events and allowing you to pre-book tickets, please email: info@woodlandsevents.org.uk

Review of the Film Screening at WERFA – Sat 17th Sep 2016

We had another great turnout for the latest film screening event at the WERFA Pavilion on the evening of Saturday 17th September.

The evening began with the showing of a recently rediscovered silent newsreel featuring life behind the scenes at Worton Hall Studios in its heyday, followed by an informative and amusing presentation about some of the history of filmmaking at the Studios and the techniques used in the making of “Things to Come”, which was hosted by local historian Ed Harris, author of “Britain’s Forgotten Film Factory”.

Following a break for sausages and mash there then followed a full length screening of “Things to Come”, the prophetic and ambitious talkie film produced at Worton Hall in 1936, based on the work of H.G. Wells and featuring classic actors such as Ralph Richardson and Raymond Massey who would go on to be stalwarts of the British movie industry.

Please watch out for news of further film nights in WERFA News, the  website and on the Isleworth Film Festival page on Facebook. Many thanks to everyone who participated in putting together the event and making it such a success.

Finding himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he begins to realise that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family, who read the label around his neck (‘Please look after this bear. Thank you.’) and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist…

Children’s Film review

The Good Dinosaur Family Film screening on 30th May 2016

Our first family film event was very well attended with 64 people, many of whom were new to WERFA making it a great opportunity to introduce our fantastic venue to a wider local audience.

To give the children a real cinema experience, we sold individual tubs of ice-cream from Isleworth’s beloved South Street café, made fresh popcorn served in stripy paper bags, and gave each child a dinosaur sticker and a printed cinema ticket on entrance.

By investing in a large screen covering the entire back wall of the Pavilion, providing a great sound system and selling tickets from an authentic-looking ticket booth made by the talented Les McCallum, we gave the audience the full cinematic experience and received lots of wonderful comments.

One mum, Michelle Hirdle commented ‘We really enjoyed the movie. What a great idea – and it was nice not having too many people. The ice-cream was delicious and we’re looking forward to the next movie.’

The next family film event will take place on Sunday 21st August at 11am. (Great for entertaining the children during the school holidays – and on your doorstep!) Doors will be open from 10am for refreshments and there will be a chance to win the Bluray of the film following the screening. Film TBC so please check the website for updates.
