50 years ago red kites were almost extinct in the UK due to persecution but thanks to conservation measures by the RSPB and volunteers they can now be seen right across the country and on a daily basis over and around Isleworth.
At this exclusive event, Keith will give an illustrated talk about their reintroduction and how they were protected by law in Elizabethan times.
We continue to host the local police Safer Neighbourhood Team in the Pavilion. It allows them more time to do their crime prevention job without needing to return too often to Hounslow Police Station. We spoke to them about use of our outdoor facilities during periods of restriction and they have been happy to see people making appropriate use of the park and facilities, with parents looking after their children. We hope that previous restrictions will not return and expect that everyone will continue to act responsibly. Classes have returned to the Pavilion with appropriate safety rules applied. There are notices at each park entrance reminding people of the general rules that apply at all times.
We had some great entries for the photography competition from adults and children alike. The standard of photography was really high with technically excellent and imaginatively created images by children and adults of all ages. By far the most popular category was Nature which perhaps reflects the changed lives we’ve all had in the last 15 months, with more time to look around us and really notice our surroundings. Our small panel of judges looked not only for technical ability but for the personal stories within the images reflecting the themes of nature, family and community.
